Timber Logs – new song!

New Song!  I was going for somewhere between The Balck Keys and Beck with this one.  I managed to churn this one out pretty fast, so I’m thinking of this as the start of a new project (despite all the stuff I’m still getting ready for release!)  Please do have a listen and let me know what you think.

Golden Tree Music Video Screening in the V & A

Golden Tree at The V&A

I’m really happy to say that the music video for my song ‘Golden Tree’, as made by the brilliant Ninian Doff, will be screening in the V&A late this Friday, 29th March!  The EP has been ready to go for a while, but I’ve been so busy with my band Slow Wolf and recording my next solo EP, that I haven’t even released Golden Tree.  So I’ll use this screening as an excuse to officially release the new masters- more to follow on that!

Soundtrack for ‘Oh Dear’ Film by Ninian Doff

Ninian Doff made this great (hand drawn!) animation 4 years ago and recently found it, dusted off the cobwebs and finished it. I did the soundscape / soundtrack – have a watch!!

Farewell Levon Helm

Sad to hear that the wonderful musician, drummer / singer from ‘The Band’ has died today.  He’s been a great influence on me and countless others – so full of energy as a performer, a beautiful singer – pretty captivating really.  My brother in law first introduced me to ‘The Band’ via ‘The Last Waltz’ and I was literally amazed that I hadn’t heard of them before that.  They’ve since become part of my staple musical diet – listening to them is like drinking really good tea: fresh every time, picks you up and yet comforting.  Also worth listening to is his solo album ‘Dirt Farmer’ and his stuff with Bob Dylan & The Band like ‘The Basement Tapes’.

RIP Levon Helm.

Golden Tree EP Out Soon!

EP Myspace Marquee

So having written and recorded a few up-tempo and pretty raw blues / rock ‘n’ roll tracks across a week or so last year, and mastering them very quickly in my bedroom, my good friend and the super talented Ninian Doff made an amazing music video one of them – ‘Golden Tree’.

We’ve been really happy with the response of the video on line!  On vimeo it’s had over 250,000 hits, and on youtube around 25,000!  The video is a showcase of 50 no handed bike moves performed to the song.  We had an absolute blast making it and you can watch it on my videos page!

So although lots of my music is acoustic, and despite having written tonnes of songs, I haven’t officially released anything yet.  With ‘Golden Tree’ getting such a great response though, I’ve decided to do a proper release of that as an EP.  I’ve re-mixed the tracks with my good and also very talented friend Henrik Ekeus, and have also laid down some real drums with the help of the excellent Pete Grant (instead of my programmed drums on the original).

So to finish this rather long tale, I’ve sent the tracks for mastering, and should get to hear the finished article this week!  So the EP should be out soon!  That is all.
